While chatting with others in Gtalk if you want to highlight a particular word or phrase of sentence here is trick.
To bold the words keep the word in between the star symbols like  *word*
To strike the words keep the word in between the minus symbol like -word-
To italic the word keep the word in between the underscore symbols like _word_
